2008 Top 10, 1. Mel Jenkins, 184lb.

Caught on the 21 February this giant from Amposta is currently the biggest known catfish from the lower reaches of the river Ebro. The huge fish took a mullet in a known deep water hotspot and put up a tremendous tussle for the Welsh match angler.

This is our largest cat to date from the Delta section and accepted an eel fished in the margins deep down in the Delta. The dark fish made a determined effort to reach the reed beds but was stopped and brought onto a delighted boat on 1 August.

This dark, long war horse was bagged in early April by experienced world wide angler Gerard Knowles. The fish took something to subdue and put up a half hour battle, towing the boat round the reaches of lower Amposta!

Paul had a disappointing week up to this point, with everybody else’s floats going down other than his. Sometimes there is some justice though, and this Delta giant took a zombie mullet right at the end of the week’s final session

A memorable day on the 1 August with 2 huge cats being caught within hours of each other deep down in the Delta, just a few miles from the Med! This huge fish was one of the most brutal fighters witnessed this year and topped a memorable week for Shaun who caught 4 ‘ton plus’ fish.

Chris, known as ‘Star man’, has been visiting the Ebro to fish for cats for over 15 years. This Delta monster of 163lb was taken on October 10 and represents a personal best for the experienced angler. The fish was laid in a notorious hotspot close to a marginal feature in the Delta section.

Novice angler John Lovegrove could scarcely believe his luck when he latched into this beast at the end of a session down the islands of Deltebre on August 14.

The river was fishing superbly in January / February 2008 and this monster was caught from Amposta on the 5 February and is our biggest to date for a lady angler.

This was a memorable initiation on the Ebro for 1st time visitor Rob Read. The fish was hooked within 15 minutes of starting on the first day of the holiday and went like a train! Caught on a known hotspot where the river drops off on the Amposta section.

John is a regular catcher of 100lbers but this fish topped his personal best on the 4 April. Caught on mullet fished centre channel in one of our favourite locations, ‘mozzie bay’.
