After a couple of weeks away from the river it was a pleasing and fitting result to finish off the season with this majestic 135lber for Ebro first timer Rob Joynson. The fish took a large mullet fished in the margins of the Delta area. The huge cat was a welcome reward for Rob and Theo who endured one of our windiest days ever on the river on the saturday.

Father and son combination Dave and Dean Couzens final day and this time it was Dean who enjoyed the best of the action with 2 cats weighing in at 68 and 88lbs. Both fish were taken on large mullet from the Delta section, and made up for a disappointing morning with 2 fish lost on pull outs, both of which felt like heavy weights.

Another successful day for Dave Couzens today with a double capture, the best of the fish being this splendid 86lber from Deltebre. Perhaps the most memorable part of the day was Dean dropping his rod into the river, and then instantly diving in to rescue it!

The Ebro can throw up some surprise captures, and today was a good example of this when a greedy 9lb Sea Bass attacked a mullet in the 2 and a half lb category, and managed to hook itself in the process! Dave Couzens was the delighted captor of the ambitious sea predator. Almost as bizarre was the capture of Dave’s 91lb cat later in the afternoon. Whilst anchored on a hotspot, Al looked down into the water to see a large cat sniffing around the bait bin just off the boat’s gunnels. 2 baits were tweaked in close to the bin and after around 5 minutes the cat took one, before putting up a marathon battle! Dave’s son Dean also joined the party late in the session with a 69lber.

The islands at Deltebre have offered up some good sport recently and today was no exception, with a 5 cat haul, the best of the day a 100lb specimen falling to non-angler Rob Button. The fish took a small mullet fished over a shallow weedy plateau and put up a spectacular fast running battle in the shallow water. Rob’s experienced fishing partner Dave Mennie could count himself somewhat unlucky, 3 cats falling to his rod but all under 49lb!

The final day for our Russian party was once more a success. After a frustrating morning where 2 takes were missed the afternoon yielded two excellent fish of 98lb for Victor Zhak and a first fish of the trip for tour organiser and translator Alexey Tuzov at 92lb. The river was running high and coloured today, a welcome sight after some of the clear water conditions suffered in August / September.

Our first ever group from Russia have been fishing with us this week. Day one got off to a fair start with 2 fish of 73 and 62 lbs. The weather was cold with driving wind and rain today but there has been some fantastic fishing, including a magnificent 111lber for Victor Zhak caught upstream of the Amposta chicken factory. The day also produced a hard fighting 80lber out of a small pool heading up towards Tortosa and was capped off in memorable style with Grigory Ilyanov bagging a 108lb fish close to Tortosa town, right at the end of the session.

There was a welcome reward for Chris Lusty with his first treble figure cat of 101lb caught out of deep water in the Amposta section. Chris and friends endured a weekend of monsoon like rain and this fish represented a great reward for braving the elements!
